Girl’s Basketball and The MOWB

Ben Brandse and Connor Desch

After the Lady Warriors lost to the ThunderRidge Grizzlies 51-37, it was the end of the season. The girls ended the season with a record of 15-11. The MOWB or Men of Women’s Basketball were supporting all season. With about 6 members they gave the girls a passionate fan base for both home and away games.

Throughout the season the guys were able to practice with the girls to prepare them for their upcoming opponents. Garrett Connor was the only senior in the MOWB and he was leader. Most of the MOWB members are returning and so is the team. The MOWB is a fairly new group and still is slowly growing.

The Girls team has had a strong performance all season. They were consistent with their level of play and competed in every game. Most of their losses came against teams that still are in the playoffs. About half of the roster were returners to varsity. It was also filled some new faces, the girls got a transfer from Heritage and two freshman. Under Coach Knafelc the girls were able to have a balanced offense and a strong defense. The girls gave a great effort through the whole season upsetting Fossil Ridge in the second round of the playoffs and was just short of upsetting ThunderRidge too.

Next year the girls team should have 11 of their 14 players returning. This is promising for the team next year and for the MOWB. The team has made it farther in the playoffs this year than last year with a chance to go even farther in the years to come.
