The Colorado Buffaloes football team travels to The Big House this Saturday to take on the fourth ranked Michigan Wolverines. Through the first two weeks the buffs are 2-0 and have absolutely destroyed both teams they have played (Colorado State and Idaho State). Week one against their rival the buffs came out fast and sorry but CSU never had a chance. The Buffs show great promise and the seniors want to be the class that turns the program around.

The feeling around the team is different this year, they seem energized and passionate on leaving their impression in the Pac-12 this season. In the first two games the buff defense has been the surprise. Only giving up 14 points in the first two games is impressive no matter who you are playing. The Buffs defense is under their second year with new Defensive Coordinator Jim Leavitt and he has learned his defenses tendencies. Jim Leavitt has brought this defense a new attitude and swagger. His confusing coverages and blitz’ along with a bunch of playmakers in the secondary has caused constructed chaos throughout his first season and first two weeks of the 2016 season. The buffs will need to confuse Michigan Head Coach Jim Harbaugh and his brand new quarterback Wilton Speight. They need to get the inexperienced QB uncomfortable as he has looked very comfortable in his first two starts.

Now let’s go to more of the matchup side of this game. I believe that the Buffs have one of the best defensive backs in the country in Chidobe Awuzie and he should be a no doubt first rounder in next year’s NFL Draft. He will be on Michigan’s best wide receiver most of the game, Amara Darboh who is very explosive and is Speight’s number one target. The Michigan defense has looked very good in their first two games as well. They have only given up 17 points in the first two games but will be challenged this week against the new up tempo offense that the buffs have implemented into their offense this year with new Co-offensive Coordinator Darrin Chiaverini. The up tempo offense has been very exciting and has lead to quick and efficient drives ending in touchdowns.

Don’t sleep on the buffs this weekend in Ann Arbor, Michigan. They are one big win away from turning things around. I believe in this CU team and I think they are so close to making that step to competing at the highest level. This could be the start of something new for the buffs and I love the opportunity. Not to mention that they will be wearing the same jerseys as when the buffs completed the “Miracle in Michigan” in 1994 off of QB Kordell Stewart’s long hail mary pass that was caught by wide receiver Michael Westbrook to win the game. The classic look with white on black with the gold helmet might still have some good luck from that game in 1994 and might help the buffs take home a big victory in Ann Arbor. The last thing I will say is that as a buff fan I am super excited for this challenge and I am looking forward to this game to see how the buffs stand on the big stage against one of the best teams in the country. I’m calling it right now. Miracle in Michigan part 2 let’s make it happen buffs. Sko buffs!
