“I’m very pleased with performance all around at all levels this year. I am very confident in our team.”, coach Jordan Wright of the varsity volleyball team said when asked how she felt about the season thus far. The Warriors have bumped, set, and spiked their way into the top 5 in state with two losses so far to two top ten teams. Captains, Jayden Liberty and Killy Winz, have led the ladies to 8 triumphant victories this year.

On Friday night, September 16th, Arapahoe found themselves down two sets at to Chaparral and was ready to once again be swept by the powerful Wolverines. This was when the Warriors sprung into action and came back three sets to beat Chaparral on their home court. Earlier this season, these two teams had a quick meeting as Chap rolled over the Warriors three sets to none. This win marked the first time Coach Wright and the Warriors defeated Chaparral in 9 years, and the first personal victory against Chaparral for Wright.

Wright seemed to have a plan when asked if the Warriors would make it to the state tournament, she said “Absolutely. Our goal is to host regionals at Sitting Eagle. In order to host you need to be one of the top 12 teams in the state. If we get top 12, we get the home court advantage we want.” Arapahoe has only hosted another top 24 team once in the past, and Coach Wright is determined to change that.

The Warriors will take on Smoky Hill and Grandview, who is currently ranked 17th in the state. The Warriors are very optimistic about the rest of their season and are looking to achieving their goal of making it deep into the tournament.

By the numbers, if the Warriors continue with their 8 game win streak they are going to find themselves sitting pretty in the state rankings, along with a high seed increasing their chances to advance. With the Warriors rolling into an 8-2 record, there isn’t much holding them back.
