Introducing New Staff: Mrs. Melissa Smart

Allie Highsmith, Herald Reporter

At Arapahoe this year, we have a multitude of new staff. From English to Science, there are almost too many new staff members to count. I had the chance to sit down with one new staff member, Spanish teacher Mrs. Melissa Smart, and chat about her teaching career before Arapahoe, and a couple other details about her.

Q: Have you taught before? If so, where and for how long?

A: I came from Powell Middle School where I had been teaching for 8 years.  I was previously teaching for 5 years in Northwest Arkansas.

Q: What classes do you teach?

A: I am currently teaching Spanish 1 and 2.

Q: Where did you grow up and go to college?

A: I spent 12 years in Arkansas but also lived in Austin, Texas, and San Diego, California.  I went to college at the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville.

Q: What’s your favorite food?

A: My favorite food is tex-mex.  I could eat salsa for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Q: What is your ideal day?

A: My ideal day would be on a beach with my family, boogie boarding and surfing and of course a tex-mex food truck!

Q: What country would you most like to travel to and why?

A: I love Spain!  I plan on spending every summer there until I die!  The people, food, history, culture,  everything about Spain feels like home.
