Old Movie Reviews: “Jurassic Park”

Old Movie Reviews is where I take older movies a review them with the standards of modern movies. “Jurassic Park” is a movie that was released in theaters on June 11, 1993. A movie that was made 24 years ago. “Jurassic Park” still holds up to modern movie standards. I will admit, this movie does have some flaws that were probably overlooked when it first came out in theaters.
First, the flaws, one big plot hole through the movie is Dennis Nedry (Wayne Knight). He is considered the ‘bad guy’ but he is so underdeveloped. If you don’t know or don’t remember Dennis steals dinosaur embryos for…. Money? In the beginning of the movie, Dennis meets up with Lewis Dodgson. You know that one guy that is in the movie for 5 minutes. He wants the embryos for….. Money or making dinosaurs for a rival company. Either way quite a big plot hole. Some more flaws have to do with factual inaccuracies. Such as the fact that Velociraptors were only the size of a turkey. About 3 feet tall and 6 feet long.
Next the dinosaurs, you can’t have a “Jurassic Park” movie without dinosaurs. The strange thing is that I forgot about is that all the dinosaurs are practical effects meaning they still hold up today and still look good. The T-rex and Velociraptors are terrifying while the triceratops and brontosaurus’ are majestic and beautiful. “Jurassic Park” is also a thriller with some of the most suspense moments in history. The kitchen scene. Those few moments are some of the most frightening moments in movie history and actually made me sweat in fear for the characters. The Velociraptors look real as if they could actually be walking the earth.
Finally, the last part of this review is the direction. However, this movie gets if perfect. Steven Spielberg is the best possible director for “Jurassic Park”. The shots are either beautiful and peaceful or scary and terrifying. From the scene where we first see the brontosauruses to the T-rex escape scene everything in “Jurassic Park” is filmed with lots of detail. Let’s not forget the score. John Williams is the kings of making amazing film scores. He makes so many iconic songs. From “Star Wars” to “Indiana Jones” and “Jurassic Park” are all well known and if you hear it they will be stuck in your head.
“Jurassic park” is a solid 9/10 and one of the best blockbusters in history. From its small flaws to its amazing scenes. “Jurassic Park” is a must see movie that anyone can love. But note the sequels are a different story and not as good. “Jurassic Park” is a classic that will always be able to live up to the standards of modern movies. This movie will be remembered for a very long time.
