The 2019 NBA Draft Lottery took place last night, and the results surprised everyone. The Pelicans came out with the number one pick and are likely to select Zion Williamson, the 6’7, 280 pound forward from Duke. The order surprised many with the Grizzlies, Knicks and Lakers taking 2, 3, and 4. This lottery was highly anticipated and many expected the Knicks or Cavaliers to take the first pick. Williamson is also rumored to be the next LeBron James, which is a huge pickup for many teams. New Orleans sat at only a 6% chance to win the first pick. The new lottery ensures that the team with the worst record with not receive any pick lower then the fifth. The Knicks being the worst team in the NBA last year were highly expected to get the number one pick. The three worst teams each got a 14% chance to get the number one pick and none of these three teams received it. Is the lottery rigged? With the Lakers jumping up so high and a team with the seventh highest chance to win the first pick getting the first pick, many believe it was rigged.
