Flashback Friday 11/8

Lauren McClard and Genna Rump

It’s Flashback Friday! This week we’re taking a look at the first ever yearbook for Arapahoe High School: the 1964 Calumet. The first volume of the AHS Calumet documents the differences in Arapahoe’s social norms and class sizes compared to today.

An example of this would be the cross country team. In the 2019 Calumet, the Cross Country team is coed and made up of many different students. Whereas 55 years ago, the AHS Cross Country team was composed of 9 student athletes and one coach, which was an entirely male-dominated group. However, the uniforms for the athletes are surprisingly similar. Both teams are pictured wearing tank-tops and shorts. Although the students are dressed similarly, the Cross Country coach in 1964 wore a suit, whereas the coaches in 2019 wore collared shirts and khakis.

As time has passed, the school’s image has changed drastically. Be sure to check in every Friday to see what new flashbacks we find!
