It’s Flashback Friday! This week we’re taking a look at the tenth yearbook for Arapahoe High School: the 1973 Calumet. In this yearbook, Arapahoe students expressed their passion for performing arts by becoming mimes.

In previous years, a group of Arapahoe students came together to perform as mimes. By 1973, the group had grown, the yearbook allocating two pages to highlight this interesting group. The mimes would paint their faces white and silently express emotions through movements. This activity allowed students to take on a new persona in a safe space. Would you be willing to perform in front of your fellow peers without the ability to speak? Would you want to become a mime?

Every week we’ll look at Arapahoe’s past yearbooks for contrasts to the Arapahoe we know today. Be sure to check in every Friday to see what new flashbacks we find!
