ICYMI: Arapahoe Basketball Beats Eaglecrest

Last Saturday the Arapahoe boys and girls basketball teams faced off against the Eaglecrest Raptors. The girls started off the night winning by a score of 50-41. They were led by sophomore Sam Crispe who had a double double, with 13 points and 10 rebounds. Abby Morgan also added 12 points.

The boys finished the night winning a double overtime thriller. After getting outscored by 7 in the first quarter, the Warriors rebounded with a 27-9 second quarter. During their second quarter run, Senior point guard Korey Hess tried to make a full court pass. He overthrew the pass but the ball went straight into the hoop (the video can be seen below). The crowd went wild as Arapahoe continued their run.

Eaglecrest did make a comeback, however. They forced overtime after not allowing the Warriors to get a last shot. During the first overtime, Arapahoe got out to an early lead, but the game stayed close. Down 3, the Raptors put sharpshooter Skylar Wilson in to the game for the first time since the early fourth quarter. He got the ball and shot a fadeaway jumper from the corner. As the shot went in, the clock ran out. Arapahoe fans argued that the shot was a two pointer, but the refs said it was a three point shot. This was a very controversial call as many people saw Wilson’s foot on the line.

The game went to a second overtime. This time Eaglecrest got out to an early lead. The game looked like it was over until Arapahoe guard Bryson Stephens hit two three pointers in the last minute of the game. After one last defensive stop, the game was over and Arapahoe had pulled off the huge upset. Korey Hess finished with 28 points and Bryson Stephens finished with 27.

This win ends Arapahoes three game losing streak. After a lot of tough league games, and a double overtime loss to Mullen, this is a huge boost for the Warriors. Their record goes to 11-3 with 4 more games in their season. Keep updated with the teams as they play Cherry Creek on Wednesday.
