Flashback Friday 2/21
February 21, 2020
It’s Flashback Friday! This week we’re taking a look at the twelfth yearbook for Arapahoe High School: the 1975 Calumet.
In 1975, Arapahoe had the Work Experience and Study program, or W.E.S. The program was designed for students who didn’t plan to pursue a college education after high school. The program was based mainly on philosophy and academics, but also helped students learn about managing grocery bills, business, cooking, and other life skills. The program had a relaxed environment for the stressful situations to make them realistic but bearable. The students in the club were able to find jobs and be a part of the working community by the time they were juniors or seniors.
Do you think students would still adopt this program today? Every week we’ll look at Arapahoe’s past yearbooks for contrasts to the Arapahoe we know today. Be sure to check in every Friday to see what new flashbacks we find!
