Boo! Spooky Season Movies for a Socially Distanced Halloween
October 19, 2020
Halloween is fast approaching and the chatter about plans this year is different. With a lack of social gatherings and group activities available, it can be hard to get into the spooky spirit. So sit back, grab some popcorn, and enjoy my 4 favorite movies for your socially distanced Halloween night.
#1 – Sinister 2
Free on – Netflix
Rentable on – Prime Video, YouTube, iTunes, Google Play
Genre – Horror
Rating – R
Trailer Link – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=45zJGfEoUAg
Sinister 2 is the sequel to Sinister, but there is no need to watch Sinister first to understand the movie. Sinister 2 follows a family of twin boys and a young single mother living on an abandoned farm next to a church, where a mass murder was committed by an unknown suspect. Watch as the family discovers the truth behind the mass murder and realize that they might be haunted by the same force that was responsible for the incident in the church.
#2 – Scary Movie
Rentable on – Prime Video, YouTube, iTunes
Genre – Comedy
Rating – R

A hilarious movie full of laughs is a parallel parody to many famous horror movies, including Scream and I Know What You Did Last Summer. Although the humor is very hit or miss and the wardrobe screams the early 2000s, it’s a great movie to get into the Halloween spirit.
#3 – The Autopsy of Jane Doe
Free on – Netflix
Rentable on – Prime Video, YouTube, iTunes, Google Play
Genre – Horror/Thriller
Rating – R
Trailer Link – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mtTAhXuiRTc
Featuring both a romance to engage with the plotline and just enough jump scares to keep you on your toes, this horror movie will not let you drift off to sleep. Not a film for the faint of heart or those who can’t look at blood or graphic images because this movie is all about, you guessed it, an autopsy.
#4 – The Nightmare Before Christmas
Free on – Disney +
Rentable on – Prime Video, YouTube, iTunes, Google Play,
Genre – Animation/Fantasy
Rating – PG
Trailer Link – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wr6N_hZyBCk
This classic, both a considered a Christmas and Halloween movie, is perfect to put you in the holiday mood. It is also currently being played at multiple movie theatres, including AMC 24 Highland Ranch. This is perfect for all viewers, so little siblings are all set for this PG movie.
