Miley Cyrus’ song “Flowers” and her response to Bruno Mars

The famous Miley Cyrus came out with a new song “Flowers” which ended up a viral sensation because of her response compared to Bruno Mars’ song “When I Was Your Man”.

Fans are now theorizing about the message behind the song, mainly because it was released on her ex-husband Liam Hemsworth’s birthday. The couple split in 2018 after eight months of marriage.

It has been stated by fans and various publications that Liam once dedicated “When I Was Your Man” to Miley, and that the song was a direct reference to their relationship.

Here is part of their choruses from Bruno and Miley.

“Should’ve bought you flowers”….. “Gave you all my hours”,  Bruno said.

In comparison, Miley says, “I can buy myself flowers…. Talk to myself for hours.”

Cyrus made an exciting decision to use lyrics from a popular song that had a tie to her marriage and flip it on its head. The lyrics are a complete 180 from Mars’ and highlight the shift she feels from when she was married to Hemsworth to being on her own.

Not all of the lyrics in the chorus are directly related, but she begins with the flowers reference and ends with dancing by herself, showing her true independence and distance from who she used to be.

But what is interesting is that there is no mention of Mars in the credits for Flowers. A fact that has left fans confused given that there is no doubt that inspiration was drawn from the song that was written over a decade ago.

Does the story go any deeper? I don’t know.
