In recent activity, there have been many school shootings around the world, along with many in the Colorado area. Officials said that a 17-year-old student opened fire at East High School, injuring two school administrators and causing hundreds of students to lock down. One victim remained in critical condition. Two administrators were taken into surgery for the treatment of life-threatening injuries. The second person was in serious condition but was able to talk with investigators. There have been more than 30 mass shootings in the U.S. in the first 17 days of April alone. The U.S. has surpassed 125 mass shootings in 2023 already. Colorado breaks the mass shooting record as gun deaths rise. This is the reality of being young in America. Sitting through shootings and waiting for information for hours.  Students should and must be able to attend school without fear for their safety, their parents deserve the peace of mind that their children are safe in classrooms, and teachers should be able to work safely and without harm.
