‘It’s our future we’re voting on’
As the nation prepares for another election cycle, senior Bethany Bradley is urging her peers to recognize the power of their vote, emphasizing that young voices can shape the future of American democracy.
Bradley emphasized the importance of voting for all Americans, stressing that it is the primary way to express their opinions and shape the direction of the country.
“I’m voting because I believe you should always have a say in your politics,” she said,
Bradley also added that young people such as herself should vote as what they are voting on will impact them.
“It’s our future we’re voting on,” she said.
Bradley said she is most interested in voting on amendments and propositions because those are what make a change within the community. However, she is not as excited about the presidential election.
“People are very split,” she said. “We need a unified country and right now we don’t have that.”
Despite the divisive nature of national politics, Bradley remains hopeful that increased voter participation among young people can lead to a more united future. In exercising their right to vote, she emphasizes, they hold the power to shape a nation that reflects their values and aspirations.
‘I’m voting because I think we need change’
Senior Reid Ballard stands ready to cast his first-ever vote, viewing it as a pivotal moment to drive the change he fervently believes is needed in the nation.
Ballard said the chance to vote represents an opportunity for much-needed change in the country.
“I’m voting because I think we need change,” he said.
Ballard said every eligible voter should take the opportunity to participate in the election process. He also said that voting isn’t just a right but a responsibility, reminding others that each voice contributes to the larger decisions shaping the country’s future.
“I think it’s important for everyone to vote because your vote matters, even if you don’t think so,” he said. “It helps you voice your opinion.”
Ballard encourages his peers to take action if they haven’t yet registered, stressing the simplicity and importance of doing so.
“If you’re eligible for this election, then you should register and vote,” he said. “It’s super easy, and your vote matters.”
With a focus on the simplicity and significance of voter registration, Ballard hopes to inspire peers to take part in shaping the future. For him, each vote is a crucial step towards the change he believes is necessary, reinforcing the message that individual actions collectively drive the democratic process forward.
While Reid Ballard eagerly anticipates his first voting experience, he recognizes that this milestone is part of a larger wave of civic participation among young Americans. As he prepares to cast his vote, Ballard reflects on the importance of seizing the opportunity to influence the nation’s future, encouraging his peers to join him in shaping the democratic process.
