How to HoCo Like a Pro

Olivia Janicek, Spear Reporter

Homecoming is right around the corner! The halls are filled with excitement as HoCo proposals go into full swing. But even if you don’t have a date, there’s still a lot to look forward to in Homecoming! Here are some tips for the perfect HoCo proposal, outfit, and more.

Proposals… To Ask or Not to Ask?

Thinking about asking that special someone to the dance? There are a million ways to do it! Here are a few ideas to get your brainstorming session started.

  • Hold up a sign. (most common) Be creative with your wording, is your date really into soccer? Say something like, “Going to Hoco W/ You is My GOAL.”
  • Sing a song (a little daring). If you really want to go all out, write a song for your crush.
  • Good Ol’ Fashion Chocolate and Roses. Who doesn’t love luscious chocolate and a lovely bouquet?
  • Overall, be creative! Try to make it special. But remember, it’s not the ‘ask’ that matters. It’s the time you’ll spend together. (cliché, I know, but true!)

Dresses

Looking for the latest HoCo style? It’s hard to find the right dress, but these stores offer lots of options. You don’t have to spend a mint to get the best look either.  So go ahead, save that money for some Chipotle. My treat.

  • Nordstrom’s- Plenty of dresses to offer, any type you’re looking for, with a section devoted to dresses under $100.
  • Lulus- Super cute, stylish dresses all at a variety of prices. Has a great collection of cocktail dresses and a section for everything HoCo.
  • Kohl’s- Any style you’re looking for at a very affordable price. Kohl’s certainly got the best deals in town.

Tuxes

The matter is that, guys, you don’t need to go all out unless you want to. Tuxes are welcome, but a nice collared shirt and some dress pants are perfectly acceptable. Just avoid the t-shirt and jeans please…

No matter what you end up wearing or doing for homecoming, remember to enjoy it! You only HoCo once… or four times!
