Bad day today? Did a certain special someone break your heart? Well, you’re not alone; a lot of people have been where you are right now. Guess what? It’s going to be okay. It may not feel like it is today, but in the future, you’ll probably laugh about it. Before you give up on this article, I want you to know that I will give you the steps into getting over someone.
The moment you feel your heart shattering into a million pieces, it feels like the whole world is collapsing onto you. The nervous beat in your heart is replaced by strong, painful pangs in your chest instead. You may feel emotionally drained, you want to be alone, curl into a ball and disappear right at that moment. Sounds like a good idea, right? Well, guess what? That’s a no go. You need to say to yourself that it’s ok. You need to tell yourself that it was one person you had a fallout with that’s all. You need to ask yourself if that one small person should be the reason you have a crappy rest of the day. Hint : your answer should be no. It’s one insignificant person in your life versus the many others who love you. That one person’s affection should not be the only one that matters to you.
At this point, you’re gonna need a really big hug, or at least some type of comfort. Listening to music, lying in bed, food, watching sad videos, or actually hugging someone are great ways to feel just a little bit better. If you have someone you can talk to, walk right over to them and pour your heart out. It’s ok if you cry a little too. Whatever you need to do, just go for it. You need to put yourself first and find something that will comfort you and/or make you happier.
Heartbreaks will take time. You can’t expect your heart to mend at the end of the day. I wish it did, but, sadly, it doesn’t. Don’t feel rushed or pressured to try and get over the person, take your time, feel what you want to feel, say what you want to say, hug who you want to hug, do anything that makes you feel better.
If you need that extra push, finding a quote that motivates you in getting over the person is a good motive to have. Once you have one, set it as your lock screen. As crazy as it sounds, it really does help. Putting it on your lock screen will constantly remind you of the quote and as days go on, you will start believing that it’s true.
Here are some quotes I really liked :
“If you’re brave enough to love someone, then you’re strong enough to get over them.”
“Sometimes the person you want to be with the most, is the best person that you’re best without.”
“It’s funny how when you finally get over someone, you start seeing them in a whole new perspective. It’s like you’re looking at them through the eyes of your best friend, & you realize he’s nothing special. He’s just another ordinary boy.”
“When you finally get over that someone, I promise that you will start seeing them in a different perspective.”
“You can’t start the next chapter of your life if you keep re-reading the last one.”
“Getting over a painful experience is much like crossing monkey bars. You have to let go at some point in order to move forward,” (C.S. Lewis).
After following these 4 steps, you’re going to start feeling a lot better and happier with yourself. However, there are some aspects of this article you need to constantly remind yourself in order to get over someone in the most painless way. You need to remember that this all takes time, don’t feel rushed or pressured. This is about you, not anyone else. If someone is telling you to be over it already, don’t talk to them, they aren’t your friend (haha xD). But seriously, take as much time in the world. Another reminder you need is that whoever you’re getting over, you need to understand that they aren’t the only person you’ll ever like in your life. There are a lot of fish in the sea, so don’t feel like (s)he was the love of your life. You’re probably still really young, you have a lot of life to go. Also, don’t feel like you should have a rebound within a week; not liking anyone is still ok. Maybe it’s a time to gain some of your independence! Finally, you need to step back and really look at this heartbreak situation. It isn’t the end of the world and it’s probably not as big of a problem as you feel like it is. It’s one small obstacle you ran into and now you need to figure out how to hop over it. I hope this advice impacted you in a positive way and that you keep your head held high and be strong. Remember, all you really need is yourself. Best of luck.
