Product Review: Huawei Smartwatch
December 13, 2016
Believe it or not, not everyone has an iPhone. Without an iPhone, the much-loved Apple Watch is practically useless. For everyone with an Android phone, however, there is a great substitute. Android Wear is a powerful system with a much anticipated update coming early 2017. But having Android Wear requires an Android Wear Watch. Hence, the Huawei Smartwatch. Other Android Wear Watches have compromised design, or bad screen resolution, but Huawei succeeded greatly.
The Huawei Smartwatch is sleek yet classy, and with interchangeable bands it can be worn for any occasion. It is round, unlike the Apple Watch, so it can look more like a watch than a mini-phone. The charge takes 30 minutes, and the watch lasts 2-3 days with use. This doesn’t seem good, but the 2015 Apple Watch only lasted 18 hours a day, and charged overnight (New Apple Watch battery lasts near the time of Huawei’s Smartwatch). However, the Huawei Smartwatch isn’t waterproof, but at water resistant it is safe to wear in the rain. The display is quite visible, even in low light, so seeing it shouldn’t be a problem. Another plus for Huawei is the screen size. The Apple Watch starts at 38 mm, but the Huawei Smartwatch is 42 mm. This might not seem like much of a difference, but reading something is much easier on a larger screen than it is on a smaller one.
But with class comes price. The Huawei Smartwatch officially starts at $300, but Best Buy and Amazon usually sell it for $200-$250+. Overall, The Huawei Smartwatch is a great alternative to the Apple Watch, because some people have Android phones.
