Upset Alert! Boys Basketball Playoffs
February 27, 2017
The 5A basketball playoffs started out with a bang for the Arapahoe Warriors. Two very exciting games opened up their playoff run.
They defeated Pine Creek Eagles in the first round 47-44. The underdog Eagles took flight in the second half building a 5 point lead with just a minute left. Arapahoe season was hanging by a thread. That is when senior Kyle Lukasiewicz knocked down a deep fade away three to pull the Warriors within 2. After getting the ball back Arapahoe Drew Hayes found himself in the corner for a wide open three. The crowd erupted as the Warriors took the lead with seconds left on the clock. The exciting ending was a perfect way for the seniors to play at Sitting Eagle for the last time.
Arapahoe now took on the role of the underdog when they travelled to Doherty Saturday night. Doherty had only lost 3 times going into the game and was ranked 6th in the state. At 27 the Warriors were overmatched on paper; however they were far from overmatched in the game. After being down 9-8 in the first quarter Arapahoe never trailed. An intense quarter saw Doherty bring it within 1 several times just to watch Kyle go score on the other end. Kyle had 32 points pushing the Warriors to an exciting upset victory 65-61.
The next matchup is this wednesday at Fort Collins.
