Colorado Weather
April 17, 2017
In case you haven’t noticed, the weather is pretty different. Having snow one week and having 70 degrees the next. With the weather so unpredictable, it’s hard to make plans outside and not know whether you should wear your heavy winter coat or a short sleeve shirt.
The average temperature for the middle of April is usually about 55 degrees. This drastic weather change this year makes it hard for plants to survive. If another hard freeze comes, trees such as apple trees and crabapple trees may lose all their blossoms and any fruit that had begun to grow may die. But this unusual weather isn’t only hard for plants, it’s hard for humans too. According to CBS News, the constantly changing temperatures and weather conditions increase your chance of getting sick. Dr. Dave Hnida stated “We know that weather changes stress the immune system. And the more changes, the more stress, and our infection fighting cells aren’t in peak fighting shape.” Dr. Hnida also said that if you get sick, your body will have a harder time getting over the illness as well.
So, with this hot and cold, dry and windy weather, plants and us are affected. And all we can do is hope for it to change. But for now, enjoy the weather!
