What was one of the most highly anticipated games of spring sports ended in glory for the Arapahoe Women’s soccer team. A 2-0 victory over Broomfield sealed the girls a trip to the state championship game on Wednesday May 24th at 7:30.

Anna McCollister, a junior on the team said this about the team’s performance “You could see that everyone really tried their best this game. I think that we came out similar to all the other games we have had, but our energy was higher and it had a very positive influence on the game. Because each individual wanted it, the team really wanted it and were able to go and get it.”

Coming into the tournament a 12th seed the girls are playing as an underdog at this point, they have surprised each team they played winning the last two games by 4-0, 2-0 scorelines, which is especially surprising considering the late stages of the tournament.

The team will play Mountain Vista in this year’s 5a state title game, a team that knocked Arapahoe out of the playoffs one year ago. Mountain Vista have played strong soccer coming into the final with an efficient offense that has scored 15 goals en route to the final. Arapahoe will look to its strong defense (which has yet to allow a goal in postseason play) to power the Warriors to a state title.

“I like our chances to win. If we keep playing like we have been I think we can win the title. If we can channel our nervous energy into positive energy and use it to play well then I think we can do it,” McCollister said.

The final will be played under the lights at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park at 7:30 so make sure to come out and support our ladies as they go for the state championship title.
