Do the Nuggets Have a Shot At the Playoffs?

Nathan Holmes, Spear Editor

The Denver Nuggets have improved over the offseason, but have they improved enough? Teams like the Oklahoma City Thunder, the Houston Rockets, San Antonio Spurs, and the Minnesota Timberwolves are all practically super teams, joining the Golden State Warriors. Those right there are 5 playoff spots that for sure will be taken away from the Nuggets. Ever since George Karl was fired (He was coach of the year at the time) the Nuggets have never made the playoffs. Even with a great lineup featuring Paul Millsap and Nikola Jokic, the Nuggets are lacking an amazing frontcourt. Not that Jamal Murray and Gary Harris are bad, but they are nothing spectacular. In the age of super teams, the Nuggets need to be spectacular.

If the Nuggets want to even make the playoffs, they need to make the leap from a good team to a great team. Signees like Richard Jefferson just won’t do it. What the Nuggets needed to do was get someone like Russell Westbrook or John Wall. One of them could have led the team in the frontcourt and Paul Millsap could lead the team in the backcourt. If the Nuggets were in the Eastern Conference right now, they would have an easy playoff spot from the get go. That conference is struggling. But that is not the case, and the Nuggets need to play like a super team if they ever want to have a shot at a playoff spot in the west.

If Michael Malone wants to remain as the Nuggets coach he needs to coach this team to the playoffs. The Nuggets have a lot of potential, and I see a future playoff spot for them. It all depends on whether they want it or not.
