On Saturday, February 3, 2018, the Heritage LPS Varsity hockey team held their Senior Night while playing an exciting game against Cheyenne Mountain High School. Heritage’s pep band could also be found in the stands cheering for the team.

There are only three Seniors on the Varsity team this year, including Matt More, Corbin Divita, and Nicholas DiPonio. This will mean that the team who has had one of their best seasons in a while will stay together, for the most part, heading into next year. This is a positive thing and could turn out as an advantage for Heritage. By keeping most of the same team together, the chemistry and skill that has been developed on the team this year will better carry into next season. They won’t have to start at square one in order for the team to develop chemistry with each other. Instead, they can focus on other things the team would want to work on for next season.

The Eagles were the dominating force out on the ice, both on offense and defense. This force was reflected early on with the first period ending with a score of 4-0 in favor of Heritage. The Eagles may have racked up a few penalty minutes, but that didn’t stop them from scoring two more goals in the second, one of them being short-handed. Heritage ended the game shutting out Cheyenne Mountain by a score of 8-0.

Only three games remain in Heritage’s Varsity regular season. This Saturday the Eagles (13-2-1) take on Aspen (10-2-3) at Ice Ranch. Last time these two teams played each other, the game ended in a tie (2-2). Against common opponents Heritage is 10-2 while Aspen is 9-1-2. This game looks to be exciting as the teams are pretty evenly matched. Heritage will later play Columbine High School at home (South Suburban) on Thursday, February 15th. Then they will travel north two days later on the 17th to play Resurrection Christian High School in their final game of the regular season.
