On Thursday, February 15, 2018, the Heritage LPS hockey team faced Columbine High School in their last home game of the regular season. It could be seen early on in the game that these two teams did not particularly care for one another. Two goals came from Jakob Boos in the first, one of which was on a power play. The score at the end of the first was 2-0 Heritage.

The second period started out rough for the Eagles. Columbine scored less than a minute into the period. However, Heritage still pushed on. Davis Crosby scored at 10:04 and Angus Neely scored a short handed goal at 14:21. With some great goal tending from James Purse, the second period ended 4-1 good guys.

The final period of play ensured the victory the Eagles had in sight. Jakob Boos scored once again allowing for him to have a hat trick. Even though Columbine scored in the third, it was too late for them to make a comeback. Max Yates scored an empty net goal with 1:12 remaining in the period. Overall Heritage played a strong penalty kill and didn’t allow for Columbine to score on any of their three power plays. Heritage won 6-2.

Heritage is currently ranked 1st in their league and 4th in the state. The Eagles (15-2-1) will travel to Fort Collins on Saturday to take on Resurrection Christian (12-4)  in their last game of the regular season. Against common opponents, Heritage holds a record of 10-1-1 while Resurrection is 9-1. Last time these two teams played each other, Heritage won 3-1. After this game is complete, it will be off to the playoffs for Heritage’s seventh straight year.
