Arapahoe Starts the Season Right, Beats Cherokee Trail 17-3
Warriors win season opener 17-3 against Cherokee Trail
March 14, 2018
In what was a chilly day at Legacy stadium the Warriors came to play. With a lot of anticipation and nerves entering the season opener, the Warriors played well showing why they belong as the 5th ranked team in the Colorado 5A preseason rankings. Lead by captains Jackson Harvey, Riley Moynihan, Korbin Ruehle, and Ethan Ferrie the warriors enter the 2018 campaign with a lot of experience.
The boys got things rolling fast giving themselves a 6-1 lead with seconds left in the first. To add a little extra, sophomore midfielder Josh Carlson whipped a shot beating the keeper with only two seconds left extending the lead to 7-1 at the end of the first
One of the main reasons for the Warriors offensive success came from senior captain Jackson Harvey who completely dominated the faceoff circle. Taking 16 faceoffs with nearly a 100% win percentage. One of the main reasons why he’ll be attending the University of Denver in the fall of next year.
The first quarter was no fluke as the Warriors kept up the pace scoring another five goals in the second. Talking to Harvey after the game he said, “ Everyone was really excited before the game and during the pre-game, there was a certain energy out there that we knew we were gonna play well and we did.” Warriors took a 12-2 lead to the half.
The second half had less action as most of the starters for the warriors sat to give experience to some of the younger guys on the team. They scored five more goals courtesy of Bobby Baltzer, Riley Moynihan, Trevor Douglas, Patrick Kelly and Jake Hall giving the Warriors a 17-3 win in their season opener.
The warriors looked great as they’ll look to keep their momentum going against Grandview High School next Saturday. This game was just the start of what the Warriors hope to be a season to remember.
