LPS Hockey Takes on Battle Mountain (With Photos)

On Saturday, January 27, 2018, both LPS hockey teams faced Battle Mountain in two exciting match ups.

The JV team started off the night at Ice Ranch and played well against the tough Battle Mountain JV team. The game started out slow on both sides with no score in the first. By the end of the second, Battle Mountain was leading with a score of 2-1. Even though Heritage fought hard until the end of the game, it just wasn’t enough to stop the momentum Battle Mountain’s offense had gained. The final score was 4-1.

Later in the night, Varsity took on Battle Mountain at South Suburban Ice Arena. Things appeared to not be in favor of Heritage after the first period. Heritage was not able to score a goal while Battle Mountain led by one point. However, Heritage rallied in the second period scoring six goals. This set Heritage up for success in the rest of the game with a final score of 7-3. Shout out to Arapahoe’s own Jack Ambrose, a Freshman who scored two goals for the Varsity team. This game was a nice change of pace after losing to Battle Mountain 9-8 only a week ago.

Things are looking promising for Heritage as they approach the home stretch of their season. Varsity’s record currently puts them 6th in the state. Varsity plays Cheyenne Mountain this Saturday at home (South Suburban Ice Arena). Against common opponents, Heritage has a record of 7-1-1 while Cheyenne Mountain only has a record of 2-8. Last time these two teams faced each other, Heritage won by a score of 3-2 in overtime.

The JV team plays two games this upcoming weekend. Heritage starts things off Friday night at Ice Ranch in an away game against Cherry Creek JV. They play again the following day to take on Cheyenne Mountain JV at home (Ice Ranch).
