LPS Hockey Off to a Strong Start
The LPS Heritage Varsity hockey team started their season last Friday at South Suburban Ice Arena against Battle Mountain.
The team started strong in the first period scoring two unanswered goals. They also looked a lot more aggressive, and they always went after the puck. In total, 23 penalties were called throughout the game, 13 of which were against Heritage. Varsity won the game 3-2.
Less than 24 hours later, Varsity took on Summit. An impressive offense, power play, and penalty kill pushed the team to an 8-2 victory.
The team looks promising after the first two games of the season. They are displaying a strong offense that ultimately puts pucks in the back of the net. Their penalty kill was solid in both games; they only let Battle Mountain score twice out of seven power plays, and Summit only scored one out of six. Varsity also played a strong power play on Saturday scoring on three of their six power plays. If Heritage continues these trends, a good season is sure to follow.
Coming out of the weekend the team is 2-0 and ranked No. 9.
The team’s next home game is Saturday against Regis at 6:30 at South Suburban Ice Arena.
