Even though the Arapahoe Warriors have not done well against the Ralston Valley Mustangs recently (they were 1-7 in their previous eight matchups), they didn’t let the past get in their way on Tuesday. Arapahoe strolled past Ralston Valley with points to spare, taking the game 50-33. The win made it back-to-back wins for Arapahoe.
Leading Arapahoe to victory were Gianna Smith and Liz Gentry. Smith scored 18 points along with five rebounds, while Gentry dropped a double-double on 19 points and 14 rebounds. That makes it eight consecutive games in which Gentry has scored at least 25% of Arapahoe’s points.
Ralston Valley lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Sophia Sabus, who scored 12 points along with five rebounds. The match was Sabus’ ninth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Kailey Townsend, who scored 11 points.
Arapahoe is on a roll lately: they’ve won four of their last five matches, which provided a massive bump to their 4-4 record this season. As for Ralston Valley, their loss dropped their record down to 6-3.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Arapahoe will challenge Fossil Ridge at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. Hopefully Fossil Ridge focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 23 on Friday. Ralston Valley will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They’ll take on Cherry Creek at 7:00 p.m. on January 3, 2024.
