LPS Hockey Update

Another season of LPS CHSSA hockey is underway, with some success and loss for both teams.

Coming off a strong season last year, with a young, talented team still intact, Varsity was expected to have another impressive year. However, the team has struggled to make their mark so far this season. Varsity lost their first game against Battle Mountain at Dobson Arena on Friday, November 30, with a final score of 2-4. They redeemed themselves the next day defeating Summit 6-2 at Stephen West Arena. Last Saturday, December 8, Varsity lost to Ralston Valley at South Suburban Ice Arena  2-4 leaving the team with an overall record 1-2-0.

As for the rest of Varsity’s schedule, wins may not be handed to them. Upcoming games are against traditionally powerhouse teams, such as Cherry Creek, Regis, and Monarch. That said, it is still early in the season, and there is a lot of talent on the team. With a little hard work, playoffs are not too far out of the picture.

JV has had an overall better start to their year. On Friday, November 30, the team beat Battle Mountain JV 4-0. This victory was followed by another strong win at home against Steamboat Springs JV with a final score of 8-0. Unfortunately, this streak was broken Saturday, December 8, after losing to Ralston Valley JV 2-4. Once again, however, it is too early in the season to make a call on their overall status this year.

Coming up this weekend Varsity plays two away games. The first one will take place at Honnen Ice Arena against Cheyenne Mountain on Friday, December 14, at 4:30 pm. The second game will be played the next day (Saturday, December 15) against Cherry Creek at Family Sports Center at 3:10 pm.
