The 2023 NHL Trade Deadline has been the most eventful in NHL history. With star players being moved at a much higher rate than usual.

I’m going to be grading the trades of all of the big name players who were on the move.

Patrick Kane

The Chicago Blackhawks traded Patrick Kane to The New York Rangers for a 2nd and a 4th round draft pick. The Blackhawks were put in a tough situation because Kane only wanted to go to New York so they could have gotten more if he was traded to another team, but Kane had the power as he had a no move clause that he had to waive to be traded

Jakob Chychrun 

The Arizona Coyotes traded Jakob Chychrun to The Ottawa Senators for a 1st round pick and two 2nds. The Senators were able to pick him up for a pretty good deal due to the Coyotes trying to wait for an amazing deal on him and it never came as other teams went out and got other defensemen to fill their needs for much cheaper. If the Coyotes traded him a week earlier they would’ve gotten a much better return for Chychrun.

Vladislav Gavrikov

The Columbus Blue Jackets sent Vladislav Gavrikov and Joonas Korpisalo to The Los Angeles Kings in exchange for a first and third round draft pick and longtime Kings goalie Jonathan Quick. This is a huge move due to the fact that Quick had been in LA for 16 years and won 2 Stanley Cups but he had not been good this season and LA wants to win another cup so they went out and got a very good defender and a goalie so they can try and win this season.

Tyler Bertuzzi 

The Detroit Red Wings traded Tyler Bertuzzi to The Boston Bruins for a 1st and a 4th round draft pick. The Bruins are going all in this year and this addition just makes them even better. The bruins are on track to break the NHL record for most wins in a season and this is likely the last year of their captain Patrice Bergeron and forward David Krejci so they are trying to win another cup with them. The Red Wings are likely not going to make the playoffs this season and Bertuzzi is a free agent so getting a 1st and a 4th for him is great value.
