 On March 12th the 95th Oscars of 2023 took place at the Dolby Theater in Los Angles, California.  The evening’s ceremony honored the year’s best performances in regard to film.  Many famous names were introduced on the red carpet bringing many glamorous ensembles. Comedian Jimmy Kimmel was back for his third time as host. 

 

It shaped up to be a strong night for South Asian artists and filmmakers. Leading the nominations, the best picture award was given to “Everything Everywhere All at Once.” The best director award was given to Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert. Michelle Yeoh was given the award for best actress. Ke Huy Quan was given the award for best supporting actor. Jamie Lee Curtis was given the award for best supporting actress. And last but not least they were given the award for Best Original Screenplay and Best Film Editing. All of these awards that were won were all given to “Everything Everywhere All at Once.”

 

The other awards that were given out were mostly for “All Quiet on the Western Front.” With the movie being international it turned out to do really well in theaters and with the audience, it was given to. Another big surprise that turned out really well was Brenden Fraser winning best actor for his movie “The Whale”. 

 

Highlights of the night included performances by Lady Gaga delivering an emotional and heart-wrenching  “Hold My Hand”, a song from “Top Gun: Maverick.” Rihanna is fresh off of her news of a pregnancy reveal at the super bowl. Had performed her new song “Lift Me Up” from “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.”
