The very talented actor and music artist, rapper Childish Gambino expands his brand in his new album, “Awaken, My Love” which was recently released on December 2. Childish Gambino also known as Donald Glover (no relation to Danny Glover) is a well known rapper in the hip hop/rap community. His most notable songs include “3005”, “Sweatpants”, “Bonfire”, as well as “Freaks and Geeks.”

Glover most who is known for his unique sound and style has branched out with this exciting new album. It is not like any of other music, instead he has decided to explore the funk genre but still has own creativity developed in it.

The album includes eleven songs that all have what some would consider a soulful sound. Prior the full album coming out, two of the eleven songs were released called “Me and Your Mama” and “Redbone.” The two songs combined have racked up approximately seventeen million views on Youtube in total. Each song has it’s own distinct sound whether it is the different ways he tries to sing or if the instrument’s only purpose was to make music for a particular song. Each song also tries to tell its own story while connecting to the other songs to make one large story.

If you’re a fan of Childish Gambino, then you should enjoy the album. Others might not find as much joy in the album only because of the different direction he has taken it. Overall the album seems like it could’ve came out of the 70’s which gives it enough potential to reach more than just Childish Gambino’s audience.
