2018 Winter Olympics Preview

With February 9th coming up, that means the PyeongChang 2018 Winter Olympics are just around the corner. The Olympics will be held in South Korea in the PyeongChang Olympic Stadium, which is located on the east side of of Korea. Which in fact is the smallest city to ever host an olympic event, and their first ever Winter Olympic games hosted. But you better bring your coats because the average high in Pyeongchang in February is 35°F, Average low is 17° In this years games there will be 92 represented countries competing in 102 events. With the official slogan of the year being “Passion. Connected”. This years honorary ambassadors for the Games will be former Olympic figure skater Yuna Kim, South Korean President Moon Jae-in, former NFL wide receiver Hines Ward, U.S. skier Lindsey Vonn and Los Angeles Dodgers baseball pitcher, Hyun-jin Ryu.

Like always the United States will be competing in the games. Team USA will be bringing in 242 athletes, 135 men and 107 women: 22 Alpine skiers, 10 athletes in the biathlon, 16 bobsled athletes, 20 Cross country skiers, 10 curlers, 14 figure skaters, 29 freestyle skiers, our hockey teams has a total of 48 players, 21 speed skaters, 10 Lugers, 5 athletes in the Nordic combine, 4 skeleton athletes, 7 Ski jumpers, and 26 snowboarders.There will be seven sets of siblings who will compete for Team USA. Of all of our athletes there are 5 returning gold medalists, including two of the most decorated athletes in their sports. 31 states will be represented this year, with colorado bringing an astounding 31 athletes who will represent the U.S during the games this year. Many of the athletes competing this year will be training at the olympic facility in Lake Placid, Colorado Springs.

This years Olympics will be bringing in a lot of big things. The 2018 medals are the heaviest in history (gold, 1.29 pounds; silver, 1.28 pounds; bronze, 1.09 pounds), None of those are cheap either. Speaking of cost, the total cost of the Olympics will be an astounding $10 Billion! So get comfy because the games are about to begin and it is time to cheer on Team U.S.A.
